Help continue his legacy
Nate "The Mayor" Cyphers was a beloved figure whose legacy lives on through the many charitable organizations he devoted his time and energy to. Nate passed away from lung cancer on July 13, 2024, but before his passing, he was known for his unwavering commitment to the Sacramento community. His warm, caring nature and deep involvement in philanthropic work touched many lives.
Throughout his life, Nate was a pillar of support for numerous charities, including the 70-year-old Sacramento Ballet, where he served on the Board of Directors and played an active role in fundraising efforts. He also worked closely with the Crocker Art Museum's Young Leaders program as a member of the Advisory Council, even serving as Chair. His leadership extended to Hope Productions, where he chaired the Advisory Council for the umbrella organization supporting children's charities. Other organizations that benefited from Nate's generosity included First Tee Sacramento, Sacramento County CASA, Easter Seals, United Cerebral Palsy, St. John's Program for Change, Hope Cooperative, Chevo Ramirez Foundation, and Dave Joeger Foundation.
Among all the causes he supported, two stood out most for Nate: Make-A-Wish (MAW) and Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). His involvement with Make-A-Wish spanned over 15 years, during which he served as Chair and Co-Chair of the Regional Council. Nate played an instrumental role in transforming a small backroom poker game into a major annual fundraising event held at Morton's in downtown Sacramento. Over the course of Nate's tenure, this event raised more than $2,000,000, funding roughly 200 life-changing wishes, each costing around $10,000.
Similarly, Nate's dedication to Big Brothers Big Sisters was profound. He served on their Board of Directors and was a key advocate for the organization's fundraising efforts. His commitment to BBBS was recently honored when Nate's wife, Dre ("Aundrea") received the "Nate Cyphers Legacy Impact Award" on his behalf.
Nate's legacy is one of selflessness, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the power of giving back. He leaves behind a lasting impact on the Sacramento community and on the many lives he touched through his charitable endeavors.
